Welcome to the Fred Paton Day Care Centre.

It is that time of year again, when I look back through the diary and remind myself of all that we have accomplished at our centre.

We continue to pick up 30 Service Users per day by minibus, with Drop Ins and Riddrie Adult Training Centre helping to plump up our numbers. Our daily activities vary from Armchair Exercises to Bingo to our weekly Tea Dance. Our lunches continue to be prepared on site by our very own cook Myra. We now liaise, with an optician who carries out free on site eye tests but now no longer have the mobile chiropody unit using the centre. As always we are looking out for a mobile hairdresser to glam up the Service Users' hair dos. For those who know me, you know I myself don't have such problem.

We have had a few day trips in the last year. Last June we went to Largs and the sun certainly did not have his hat on. Oh! The joys of the Scottish weather! We have had a few impromptu trips to Helensburgh and Ayr when the sun has been shining!

At Christmas time we went to the Grosvenor Hotel for our main Christmas lunches but still had a couple of low key parties at the centre too. Sheena and Billy held a Christmas lunch in our centre on Christmas Day a few of our Service Users attended and had a lovely time, so on their behalf I would like to say a big Thank You to Sheena, Billy and all their little helpers for making this day a special one for them.

So far this year we have had entertainers in for Rabbie Burns Day, St Patricks Day and St Valentines Day but have entertainers planned to help us celebrate Independence Day, Halloween and Christmas (Again! ) We also have a couple of variety shows in between. (Ps All welcome!)

I would like to thank the Maryhill and Kelvin Committee, Partick and Hillhead Committee for the donation for Activities for our Elderly Service Users and allowed us to get new showers fitted within our centre.

At this point I would also like to thank all the staff and the volunteers who make all the day trips, activities and parties such a success. I look forward to seeing what another year will bring! Not more grey hair I hope!

Till next year...

Mick Reilly

Centre Manager
