Hi, my name is Lynn Campbell; I am one of three Welfare Officers/Advisers that work for
Glasgow Old Peoples Welfare Association. I love my job!!!!! Can I just say that. I give advice on
Benefit entitlement and inform people of their entitlements and what benefits are available to
them. This is very much a grey, complex area, most senior citizens are so unsure of what they
are entitled to and are under the impression if they have an Occupational or Work Pension they
would not have any further entitlement to financial help.
Let me begin with my favourite benefit/allowance, this is called Attendance Allowance!,
Attendance Allowance is a NON MEANS tested benefit and it is paid to people over 65yrs old,
who have an illness or disability which affects their day to day living, i.e., if you are struggling
to care for yourself, wash, dress, prepare a cooked meal for yourself, maybe your mobility/
stability is not as good as it once was, all these conditions meet the criteria to apply for this
benefit. Do you remember Nicholas Fairbairn????? He was a QC, who lived in a Castle and
when he was alive he was awarded Attendance Allowance and he got his picture on the front of
the Evening Times, to prove to people that although you may be wealthy, if you have ill health
you meet this criteria for this benefit, so please think about applying, contact us and let us help
you, we do all the writing, all the administration, and as we are verifiers for the Dept for Work
& Pensions, we can verify all details that are required.
If the Attendance Allowance is awarded, there may be a further entitlement to other
allowances through Pension Credit, now Pension Credit IS financially assessed, you have
probably heard of Pension Credit as DWP had a big campaign and mail shot
"Pick it up, it’s yours". Pension Credit is in two parts, there is a Guarantee Credit, which is
where you do not have enough to meet what the law states you should be living on, and there
is the Savings Credit Part, which is put in place to assist people over 65, who have savings or
small work/occupational pension, which takes them over for what the law states you should be
living on, once you were penalised for having a work pensioner paying into your pension but
now you can be rewarded up to £20.00per week, remember all being financially assessed.
There is just too much information to write about, so why not give us a call and see if we can
help you?
What I do know I could write a book and what I don’t know, I could fill a library!!!! but what I
can say is that I will always try and help when and where I can!!
So call us on 0141 221 9924
